Buddhism


Buddhism was come from India, and there were two type of Buddhism. The first one was Theravada which mean “tradition of elders” and the second one was Mahayana.


Cambodian Buddhism

Cambodian Buddhism is Theravada, and their Wat/temple inside there is several bonzes, hall, kitchen and quarters for nuns. The first entrance which face east use only for ceremony and other entrances are around the wall and also the Monks build it in the forest.

The bonzes are many numbers like it is almost the same size as the population of Cambodia. When a young man become a novice has to be seven or thirteen years old. If a man become a monks has to be at age twenty. Monks follow 227 rules, also widow women and old women can become nuns and spend their entire life in temple. Therefore, they shave their head and even their eyebrow and monks as well too. Buddhism in Cambodia believes that true Monks don’t involve in political or they don’t vote in government.



What they believe?


Most Cambodian to be Buddhist they believe in spirits for example, they put various of objects such as

pret is nasty demons, it is the spirits of the people who die violent.

mneang phteah is the guardians of the house, and they must show respect to those spirits for example, when a child his/her mother die, and he/she must provide food to the spirits because if they didn’t that spirits may cause bad misfortunate to the child.



Peace Pagoda

Buddhism of Peace Pagoda is Theravada which is social teach themselves.

The peace pagoda of New England doesn’t have any gate for entrance, but they build temple near the peace Pagoda and use it to walk around while they pray. Therefore, around the peace pagoda there are four statues, and the first statue show Buddha when he was just born on garden flowers and animals come around him. The second image when he want to find enlightenment for example, he want to prevent suffering, so he went in the forest and stop eating food, and he just eat a little a bit food. The third statue show when Buddha end up his life and people come near him. The fourth images show the two images of Buddha one is Sakyamuni and the other one is ancient Buddha around the world.

What they believe?

The peace pagoda Monks believe in peace and the elements that around the peace pagoda such as earth, air, water and sky.

Also, they believe Walking in peace for example, they walk from San Francisco and los Angeles to New York. While they said this words “Na Mu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo” which mean “Non-violent resistance, a gentle movement through which people are spiritually united.."
